“This year 202 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women’s constitutional right to vote. The Florida 2020 Women’s suffrage Centennial Commemoration Committee, a non-partisan collaboration of women-centered institutions, organizations, and scholars from across Florida will work to ensure that this anniversary, and the journey to achieve it, are commemorated and celebrated throughout the state”
I have been researching woman suffrage more at the national level, but when I discovered that Florida is now focusing on woman suffrage for this state, that sparked my interest.
I started to explore various sources, and found only a few journal articles, or other materials from numerous resources. I then decided to try to tell Florida’s suffrage story through historical newspapers. I am now embarking on this journey.
Newspapers from the early part of the 1900s have few photos, especially of woman endorsing suffrage. If you wish to share any of your Florida woman suffrage photos that I can publish in my upcoming book, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Throughout 2020, I will be posting national woman suffrage information through American Women’s History Journey E-Zine as well as its podcast. If you wish to be a guest on the podcast regarding Florida women’s suffrage, please contact me at the same e-mail as above.
